EFC is the biggest MMA event in the African continent, with events held in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, and broadcatsing to 107 countries. They mostly only feature fighters that live in African soil, with the majority of them coming from South Africa.
Their last event was held in Carnival City, Johannesburg, 1st of March and was the first in 2013.
It was a glorious night in South Africa for the Rio Grappling Club coaches. Wiekus Swart, Rico Hatting, Bobby Kragiannidis, Walter Wendt and Jurgen Putter had their students winning spetacularly at the event. 4 fighters, 4 victories.
Giddeon Drotschie won by stoppage at the 3rd round after outgrappling his opponent throughout the fight. Daniel Van Heerden submitted his opponent with a rear naked choke in the first round. JP Kruger won with an armbar from the guard in the first minute and Andrew Van Zyl took the Heavyweight title of the EFC with a solid victory over the previously undefeated champion Ruan Potts, by unanimous decision, scoring 49-46, 49-46 and 49-45.
I watched comfortably all the fights from a VIP seat. The event was very well organised and impressed by its professionalism, one could think they were at the UFC in Vegas.
